raw observations by the affected generation

Is there any point talking to people anymore?

The rise and proliferation of social media within our society has been so rapid, to the point that many of us do not realise how much of our lives/livelihoods now depend on, and revolve around, these platforms and technologies until they stop working or are taken from us. There have been large shifts in the way people are using social media — most pronounced in the lives of younger generations — which are disturbing and yet largely unknown to the general public, who are not aware of the technological and cultural changes fomenting these shifts. These issues deserve reflection and then public outcry.

Our aim with this documentary was to shine a light on the impact social media has had on young people: how they interact with it and how it is changing the way they communicate. We chose to focus on Generation Z — or zoomers — who have grown up with social media during a very formative period of their lives: adolescence. As they are the most integrated with these platforms and technologies, spending an average of 10.6 hours online each day, their experiences are both relatable to younger people and can serve as a message of what is to come for older people.
