We were given the opportunity to film a short section of Hafiz’s Story, which details his treacherous journey from war-torn Sudan to Sheffield, UK. Split into five sections — ‘Roots & Rupture’, ‘Journey of Survival’, ‘Sea of Uncertainty’, ‘New Lands – New Hopes’, and ‘Living with Purpose’ — the film shows the hardships and struggles immigrants face as they flee their homelands in the hopes of finding somewhere safer.
We filmed several sequences on the day, but only one was included in the final film (08:40–9:08).
This film was a summer project run by RAAH!, Sheffield Hallam University, and the Helena Kennedy Center for International Justice. During which, a range of people from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds came together to tell the inspiring stories of migration, belonging, and identity.
